KENNER, La. - Following a tip from a distraught mother who said her daughter had overdosed on synthetic marijuana purchased from a Kenner store, detectives investigated and then arrested the shops owner Thursday.

Kenner Police said Chang Zhu, 40, the owner of Baby Boy Food Mart at 1805 Airline Drive in Kenner, was charged after undercover agents had made purchases of the synthetic drug.

He was charged with distribution of a synthetic cannabinoid.

According to police, Kenner officers received a Crimestoppers tip and a complaint from a mother that her daughter had an overdose after making a purchase from Zhu's shop.

Police said Zhu kept the product behind the counter and would only sell it to people he became familiar with. Police said undercover officers made three different purchases. Additional synthetic products were found in a search of the Baby Boy Food Mart and Zhu could face additional charges.
