Christmas season is officially here and several businesses in St. Tammany Parish are pulling out the stops to get you to buy local.
On the west side, Small Business Saturday is the selling point, 'We have several members that have offered specials on our website and our Facebook page, so we are very excited and have high expectations that our residents will indeed get out and shop small, shop local,' said Lacey Toledano of the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce.
Pemmie Sheasby explains that one business excited to take part in Small Business Saturday is Oil and Vinegar, a culinary gift shop in Covington which will be offering random discount to people all day. 'We're going to have people come in and draw out of a fish bowl, and they will get anything from a discount to a free item, stocking stuffers, things along that line. We might have a few surprises that we throw in through the day.'
On the east side of the parish, gift shop Three Divas and A Sugar Daddy, are getting in the Black Friday game, according to Sylvia Reine. 'We're going to have different drawings throughout the day for gifts in the store, we'll have a lot of prices slashed, great shopping, great food, great drink, great fun, food and fashion.'
Businesses have faith they'll get the support they need, says Reine, 'Covington has been absolutely amazing in their support of us, and not just Covington, the entire St. Tammany Parish, so absolutely I support shop local 100%.'
Small Business Saturday is part of a National initiative started by American Express in 2010.
