THIBODAUX, La. -- An 11-year-old girl died in a single-vehicle crash on LA 1, according to State Police.

Around 9 a.m., the girl was one of several passengers in a Mitsubishi Lancer headed south on LA 1, near Waverly Road in Thibodaux. The driver of the vehicle had passed several vehicles using the northbound lane and lost control as he tried to re-enter the southbound lane, said State Police.

'The Lancer began to rotate and rolled over, ejecting an 11-year-old girl from the vehicle. The 11-year-old, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office,' said State Police.

The driver, the front seat passenger and two other children in the vehicle, who were all wearing seat belts, were taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor, according to State Police, and the crash remains under investigation.
