THIBODAUX, La. - Although Neighborhood Watch groups exist in Thibodaux, they remained inactive until Wednesday night.
That's when Goode Street residents met at Protection Fire Company No. 2 with the Thibodaux police chief and mayor about banding together to keep an eye out for crime in their neighborhood. The group tentatively plans to meet again on May 2.Police Chief Scott Silverii and Mayor Tommy Eschete spoke about the importance of community involvement to prevent crime. Several other Thibodaux police officers attended the meeting.A group like this brings neighbors and law enforcement closer, said Police Capt. Brian Rhodes, the group's police liaison.About two dozen people showed up at the meeting. Most were Goode Street residents, but residents of nearby Tetreau Street and Carnival Drive said they came to learn how to start their own groups.
