Hollywood South is home to several Oscar nominations this year, with the locally-filmed 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' picking up four nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress, for Houma native Quvenzhane Wallis, who becomes the youngest Best Actress nominee in history.

The Louisiana-filmed 'Django Unchained' also received three nominations, including Best Picture.

Nominations were announced Thursday morning.

As for 'Beasts,' the film's producer-director Benh Zeitlin was also nominated for Best Director and
Best Adapted Screenplay, for his film which tells the fictional tale of a 6-year-old girl named Hushpuppy and her struggle for survival in the southern Delta with her ailing father as a storm approaches.

The movie was filmed entirely in Terrebonne Parish within the communities of Dulac, Montegut, Isle de Jeans Charles and others in 2010.

Supporting actor Dwight Henry, who by day is the baker and businessman behind New Orleans' Buttermilk Drop Bakery, and earned raves as Hushpuppy's father, was unfortunately not nominated. The film is his first acting role.

Wallis, who was 5 when the movie was filmed, is nominated in the field which includes: Naomi Watts, for 'The Impossible,' Jessica Chastain, 'Zero Dark Thirty,' Jennifer Lawrence, 'Silver Linings Playbook,' Emmanuelle Riva, 'Amour.'
