NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of an unidentified man in Algiers.
The shooting happened around 10:46 p.m. Sunday night in the 1500 block of Southlawn Street.
According to police, neighbors in the area called the police after hearing gun shots inside of an apartment complex.
Officers arrived and found the man lying unresponsive in the parking lot.
Police say the victim was shot inside of a silver late model Chevy Cruze which crashed into the apartment complex. According to NOPD, the car was riddled with bullets.
As the car crashing into the apartment complex, the victim jumped out of the vehicle and collapsed in the parking lot a short distance away.
The victim was shot multiple times and died on the scene. His name is being withheld at this time, pending the notification of family members.
A large amount of narcotics were found inside of the vehicle and on the victim's body.
Investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person or people responsible for this murder.
