HOUMA -- The manager of a Hollywood Road bar was found dead inside the establishment with multiple stab wounds Christmas morning..

The body of Robert LeCompte, 39, was found inside The Drama Club, 126 N. Hollywood Road, after Terrebonne Parish sheriff's deputies were called out at 3:45 a.m., said Maj. Malcolm Wolfe, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The bar's owner, Randall Chesnut, who lived with LeCompte in Houma, called deputies when LeCompte failed to show up after closing.

Wolfe said there were no indications of forced entry at the bar, which normally closes at 2 a.m. There are no suspects, Wolfe said.

The bar is a dance club that attracts a predominantly gay and lesbian clientele.

Chesnut said in a telephone interview that he was told LeCompte was found on the club's dance floor.

'He didn't have an enemy in the world,' said Chesnut. 'He was a friend to many people and greatly loved by many in the gay community. He will be greatly missed.'

Chestnut said that according to his preliminary accounting money was missing from the bar's office.

But detectives have not decided whether robbery was the actual motive of LeCompte's killer or killers. Asked if the homicide was being investigated as a possible hate crime, due to the club's clientele, Wolfe said that for now nothing is being ruled out.

Wolfe said robbery has not been ruled out but that the investigation is in its earliest stages.
