MADISONVILLE, La. - Deputies in St. Tammany are warning parents after they say a 10-year-old girl was approached by a strange man at a bus stop.
Spokesman George Bonnett said deputies responded to the call in Madisonville on Wednesday.
According to Bonnett, a complaint was filed saying that the young girl had gotten off the bus in the afternoon when a man pulled up beside her and asked her to come with him. The child said the man said he was sent by her mother.
Bonnett said the girl ran home.
The suspect was described as a white male under 40 years of age. He had short, dark-colored hair and was driving a red-colored van with gray trim.
Bonnett said investigators began looking into the case immediately and deputies have been patrolling that area, as well as other bus stops, attempting to locate the stranger. The sheriff's office has received no other reports of similar incidents.
