Robin Roberts will celebrate her 52nd birthday later this week, but the celebration will be like few others in her life. That's because she views it not as a birthday but a 'rebirth' day, having recently undergone a bone marrow transplant, in which the donor was her sister, Channel 4 anchor Sally-Ann Roberts.

On Friday, Sally-Ann traveled to New York to talk with Robin in her first extensive on-camera interview, about their journey together. The interview will air tonight at 10 p.m. on Channel 4.

'Iam blessed to be doing as well as Iam,'Robin told Sally-Ann. 'It's a journey that kind of zigzags, but I feelgood, I feel stronger every day. I'm past the halfway mark for the 100 days, which is the most critical portion of the time, so I am blessed.'

The interview was done in Robin's hospital room, since she was hospitalized last week as a precaution, as her immune system continues to rebuild itself from the transplant.

'A latent virus, many of us have, was not responding to medication and was pulling down my numbers. Our immune systems usually take care of a virus like this, but mine is only 59 days old,' Robin wrote in a Facebook post.

'Physically I felt fine but being back in the hospital took an emotional toll on me. The wonderful doctors, nurses and support staff lifted my was comforting seeing them again. They assured me the majority of BMT (bone marrow transplant) patients have to be re-admitted to the hospital for various reasons.'

Roberts wrote that she viewed the brief stay as a tune-up and feels that she is on the road to recovery.

'My sister, Sally-Ann, flew to NYC to be with me. Before I was discharged on Friday she interviewed me. Her station in New Orleans, WWL-TV, has done an incredible job bringing attention to the need for donors like my big sis.'

Channel 4 will air Robin's interview with Sally-Ann tonight at 10 p.m. and Good Morning America will also show excerpts Tuesday morning.
