NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police arrested another suspect Monday in connection with a September murder of a local college student.

Myron Jackson, 26, faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

The shooting happened Sept. 30 in the 7700 block of Branch Drive. Marguerite Washington, 18, and her boyfriend, 19-year-old Justin Alexander, were shot while in a bedroom at a home in the area. Washington, a Dillard student, died from her injuries.

Jackson's arrest is the second in the case. Jeffery Washington, 21, was also charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder two days after the crime.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas said detectives were able to determine that there were bullet casings from two guns, leading them to believe that another suspect other than Washington was involved in the crime.

'After quickly arresting the first triggerman, they remained focused on this case until they could identify the person responsible for firing the other shots that day,' Serpas said.

'This partnership with residents indisputably is making us a safer city,' he said.
