NEWORLEANS -- Eyewitness News is learning more about the criminal connections of the alleged gunman in the Mother's Day shooting.

Over the last couple months, Akien Scott was twice arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and he bonded out of jail a few weeks ago. Now law enforcement agencies are targeting his associates to try to stop the city's violent crime.

'We have no reason to believe that he's fled the city. We have every reason to believe that he's very scared and he ought to just turn himself in,' said NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.

After video surfaced allegedly capturing Scott firing shots into a second line crowd, the manhunt continues for the 19-year-old.

'The 5th District was knowledgeable of Akein Scott as a criminal in the 5th District before this event happened on Sunday,' Serpas said.

The NOPD says Scott has ties to gang activity in the 7th Ward.

Inside Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on Tuesday, 23 individuals on parole or incarcerated took part in what's being called a Nola for Life 'call-in'. The NOPD confirms some of those people were asked about Scott's whereabouts. The 'call-in' gives criminals two options: turn your life around and get help, or serve the time.

'We've never seen a mayor get involved to this extent to bring in law enforcement, to bring in social service providers to try and help people prevent them into going into a criminal way of life,' said Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro.

While law enforcement agencies work around the clock to track down Scott, the district attorney says this time around, the 19-year-old faces many years behind bars.

'I can guarantee to the residents that when he is arrested. We will prosecute him with every available resource that we have and that he doesn't hurt anyone else again,' said Cannizzaro.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu says 15 people have received community services after taking part in the Call Ins.
