NEW ORLEANS - The city of New Orleans would like to transform the shuttered Charity Hospital into a new Civic Center that would include City Hall, the Landrieu Administration announced Wednesday.

A spokesman said the idea is to put the historic but blighted building that has been closed since Hurricane Katrina nearly eight years ago, back into commerce, while moving the city government from the outdated building it currently occupies.

The proposal says that the funding for the project would come from a combination of city-issued revenue bonds, state funding, FEMA funding, recovery dollars and some new market and historic tax credits.
