Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans City Council are turning their attention to the local budget.

Mayor Landrieu is scheduled to present his 2014 spending plan to the City Council at a special meeting at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The two will have to begin to figure out how to balance a $505-million budget in a special session at City Hall.

The 2014 budget is about $10-million more than the 2013 budget and includes certain challenges such as the NOPD consent decree, the Orleans Parish Prison consent decree, and issues with the Fire Fighters' Union, just to name a couple.

Mayor Landrieu has had to cut the local budget every year he has been in office in New Orleans but he says a great city doesn't come easily, 'I've said many, many times, you don't get a great city without sacrifices and hard decisions by everyone, but we will have a balanced budget again this year.'

Both Mayor Landrieu and the New Orleans City Council are in agreement that they will get the new budget finished by November 21, so that it is completed by Thanksgiving.
