NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police are investigating a fatal triple shooting Wednesday night in Algiers that left a 14-year-old girl recovering from her injuries.

The shooting happened after 7 p.m. near the intersection of Mardi Gras Boulevard and Copernicus Street.

According to NOPD spokesman Officer Frank Robertson, a 14-year-old girl was shot in the leg and is stable in the hospital. A 31-year-old man died from his wounds, and a 30-year-old man is in critical condition. He underwent surgery after being hit in the abdomen by gunfire.

Police haven't named a suspect or motive, but they said a silver-colored car pulled up to a dark Buick that the victims were in and began firing. Witnesses say the suspects sped away from the scene.

The victim's car, riddled with gunshots, crashed into a nearby power pole on Mardi Gras Boulevard. The NOPD wasn't releasing the name of the 31-year-old who died.
