COVINGTON, La. -- Another inmate escaped from a work release program in St. Tammany Parish this weekend.

The Chimes Restaurant in Covington confirms that a work release inmate employed by the restaurant stole a car and escaped on Friday night while at work.

A spokesman for the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office said the work release escapee is 31-year-old Martin White. He was serving time for burglary, but is now believed to be out of area. The spokesman said deputies are searching for him.

Asked by phone if the public should be concerned about the Covington work release escape, North Shore Workforce, LLC Owner Marlin Peachey said he couldn't talk and that he was at the Saints game.

Last month, a worker allegedly escaped and led police on a chase through Mandeville after a robbery spree that ended with someone stabbed in the neck. He was working at a moving company.

North Shore Workforce was the subject of a joint investigation with our partners at the New Orleans Advocate.
