DESTREHAN, La. -- Neighbors in a quiet Destrehan community were shocked when they learned a young mother was stabbed to death by her live-in boyfriend.

'I feel safe here,' said neighbor Sandy Huff. 'That's why I stay here, so this is surprising.'

After killing his girlfriend, deputies say 34-year-old Bruce Bourgeois attacked her mother, who just happened to be stopping by the couple's house when the attack started.

'When she got over to the house she realized there was a situation that occurred in the house and saw blood in the house and may have interrupted a crime scene in progress,' said St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange.

Deputies say her mother was able get away and make it to a neighbor's house, where they were able to call 911.

'I saw the police go by, then the ambulance go by, but no lights or sirens,' Huff said. 'I didn't hear that at all.'

But before deputies arrive, Bourgeois fled the home in his Toyota Scion.

Deputies say Bourgeois is currently on probation and has a criminal recorded in St. Charles Parish.

'Bruce Bourgeois was scheduled to meet with his parole officer some time later today,' LaGrange said.

As the manhunt for Bourgeois continue, neighbors shaken by the murder have only one thing on their minds.

'I want him caught,' Huff said. 'I want him to be prosecuted and I want him to spend the rest of his life in jail.'

Deputies say they don't know where Bourgeois might have run to, but he is considered armed and dangerous.

He is believed to be driving a grey or silver Toyota Scion with the license plate number VTE461, so if you see the car you're urged to call police or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
