SLIDELL, LA. A man was hit and killed while changing a flat tire on the I-10 west on-ramp Saturday night, according to State Police.

A spokesman for the State Police said they believe the woman whose car hit the victim was driving under the influence and had an improperly restrained child in her truck at the time.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m.

Troopers said that 49-year-old Eric Harrison had pulled over to change a tire when 27-year-old Desiree Lafleur of Metairie drove her Ford F-250 onto the shoulder, striking Harrison.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Harrison's car, a 43-year-old Susie Singletary, was also injured.

Two passengers riding with Lafleur were injured and taken to Slidell Memorial for their injuries.

State Police said no one in the truck was wearing a seatbelt.

Lafleur was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, DWI with child endangerment and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
