NEW ORLEANS -- Multiple court sources tell Eyewitness News that a local judge whose court absences have been the focus of several 4 Investigates reports has resigned.

Last month Eyewitness News uncovered documents showing that Orleans Parish Criminal Court Section B Judge Lynda Van Davis had a huge backlog of cases, and yet she was still absent from court, even though she had exceeded the number of days the Supreme Court would cover her cases with a fill-in judge.

In 2011 documents also uncovered Van Davis spent more than $36,000 in taxpayer's money for questionable trips to continue her legal education.

Sources said Van Davis pegged her resignation on her impending wedding, and that her resignation would not be effective for several months.
