HAMMOND, La. -- Communities across southeast Louisiana are supporting a Hammond man still recovering from a hit and run accident in Baton Rouge earlier this month.

Blake McKee, 26, was hit while walking across a street near LSU's campus after the Tigers played Alabama. Thursday morning, help for the family continued with a blood drive in Covington, held by McKee's mother's employer.

The effort follows several events already held in multiple parishes to help with medical needs and expenses, something McKee's mother is grateful for.

'The prayers, the donations, this blood and the hospital and the nurses and it's just amazing because I know that's the only reason I still have my son,' Judy McKee said.

Authorities are still looking for the driver that hit McKee and are taking any tips through the Baton Rouge Crimestoppers program. That number is 225-344-STOP.
