COVINGTON, La. - After a 16-year-old Northshore student ran a stop sign on his bicycle, he collided with a car and died from the injuries, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

Justin Addison, a St. Paul's student, was riding his bike around 5 p.m. Monday when he came upon the intersection of Josephine Street and St. Tammany Trace.

After the crash, deputies arrived on scene along with Acadian Ambulance Service and Fire District #12. Addison was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital with internal injuries.

After interviewing a witness and the driver of the car, deputies determined that the biker was eastbound on the Trace when he ran the stop sign at Josephine Street and collided with a southbound GMC SUV driven by a Covington resident.

The driver of the SUV was determined to be clear of fault in the crash, according to STPSO.

Shortly after midnight, Addison died following several hours of surgery, deputies said.

The coroner said the cause of death is multiple traumatic injuries and the manner of death is accidental.
