NEW ORLEANS After animal control officers received a call about whimpering coming from an abandoned Lower Ninth Ward home, they discovered a pit bull trapped inside, according to the Louisiana SPCA.

Officers arrived on the corner of North Johnson and Reynes within an hour after the call from a concerned neighbor.

They discovered the stray pit bull had made its way to the second floor of the dilapidated property, and due to the poor condition of the floors, the animal was unable to get back out, the LA/SPCA said.

Officers navigated the debris and rubble and were able to rescue the dog and bring him to the shelter, according to the LA/SPCA.
