BATONROUGE, La. - LSUclosed with a fast finish on National Signing Day, ending up with what most recruiting services say is the second best class in all of college football - the top team, Alabama, who else?

But finishing second to its hated rival, didn't deter LSU's Les Miles from wearing a big smile. He already had landed the nation's top prize when Leonard Fournette of St. Aug said he would attend LSU during a major all-star game. But, LSUalso landed two of the top few who remained undecided on Wednesday.

First, Malachi Dupre, widely-regarded as the top receiving prospect in the nation out of John Curtis, opted to ply his trade up the road in Baton Rouge.

Later, massive defensive lineman, Travonte Valentine out of Florida, picked LSUover Miami.

Those late signings and a few others bolted LSUfrom 6th on most lists, to 2nd by day's end.

'The LSUclass is ranked second in just about every major poll,' said Miles. 'We do a tremendous job of evaluating prospects. This class has a mix of speed, strength and size.'
