NEW ORLEANS --With training camp just a few days off, the New Orleans Saints made several roster moves on Monday, most notably, placing defensive tackle John Jenkins on the physically unable to perform list.
Jenkins, a second-year player from Georgia, missed last month's OTAs after having pectoral surgery. The move allows him to return at any time during the preseason.
Jenkins played in all 16 games last season, starting five, while tallying 21 total tackles.
Defensive end Cheta Ozougwu, whom the Saints signed in May after the Chicago Bears waived him a month earlier, will also begin camp on the PUP list after failing his physical. He played in seven games for the Bears last season, tallying four tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
Undrafted free agent defensive tackle Moses McCray was waived Monday. The 6-foot-2, 318-pounder from Akron was signed to the Saints 90-man roster in May.
Rookies reported to the Saints facilty Monday for physicals and conditioning tests, however McCray wasn't released with a failed physical designation.
Rookie tackle Tavon Rooks was placed on the declared non-football injury list, the functional equivalant of PUP list. It's used for players unable to practice for reasons unrelated to football.
Rooks started all 13 games at Kansas State in 2013 and was drafted with the 26th pick of the sixth round (202nd overall).
