NEW ORLEANS -- A civilian charged with lying to the FBI about the deadly police shootings on the Danziger Bridge will make his first court appearance later this month.

Marion David Ryder is scheduled to appear before a judge on April 16.

Ryder, who is from Opelousas, allegedly told federal agents he had chased a group of people near the bridge before one of them fired a gun.

Prosecutors say those were lies, and although he is not an officer, he was wearing a law enforcement t-shirt and carrying a gun that day.

Two former officers have pleaded guilty to a cover up in the case.
