NEW ORLEANS Two Pine Prairie men were arrested after videos showed them sexually attacking a dog, according to the Humane Society of Louisiana.

The HSL received a tip that the men were abusing their dog and they forwarded the information to the Sex Crimes Unit of the Louisiana State Police.

Detectives and deputies from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office met at the residence and interviewed the suspects, Nathan Wells and Joshua Granger.

A few hours after receiving the tip, Wells and Granger were charged with committing crimes against nature, a felony punishable by up to five years in jail and up to $2,000 in fines or both. The men admitted to videotaping the crime and sharing it online, officials said.

'These cases are often difficult to prosecute because obviously the victim cannot testify. Luckily for the prosecution, these men videotaped their crimes,' said HSL Director Jeff Dorson.

Police confiscated the computer and seized the dog, Nyla, who endured repeated sexual attacks by both men.

The Siberian-Husky was examined by experts who determined that she did not suffer any internal injuries as a result of the attacks, according to the HSL.

'Scores and scores of websites open and freely promote this activity, which is illegal in all 50 states, but prosecutions are still difficult and rare, and it is equally rare to take possession of an animal who was used for this purpose. Usually these animals are quickly adopted to other sexual deviants,' Dorson said.

Nyla is currently being boarded at Animal Medical Center, while she waits to be adopted to a suitable family.

'At first, Nyla was very shy around men and sought to hide from them. However, she is currently being socialized by a female veterinary technician and has been introduced to other dogs and a comfortable, normal home life and getting over her shyness. We believe that she will not have any negative, long- term effects from her ordeal,' Dorson said.

Animal Medical Center is located at 4738 Magazine Street in New Orleans.
