MATHEWS, La. -- State Police are investigating a crash in Lafourche Parish that resulted in the death of a man.
According to State Police spokesman Trooper Evan Harrell, around 11 p.m. Monday, the driver was killed after the 2001 Nissan Xtera he was driving went off LA 1 and slammed into a concrete embankment.
The SUV burst into flames after hitting the embankment. The driver was unable to get out of the SUV and died in the fire, Harrell said. The unidentified man was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office.
Alcohol use is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending, according to State Police, and the crash remains under investigation.
