An overnight fire in Dulac claimed the life of a man who was trapped inside the burning trailer, police said.

Joseph Verdin, 72, 6820 Shrimpers Row, was unable to escape the fire that engulfed his house and also temporarily trapped his wife, authorities said.

She ultimately escaped without injury, according to Terrebonne sheriff's Capt. Dawn Foret, but Verdin's body was found inside by responding firefighters.

Authorities were alerted of the fire about 1 a.m. by way of multiple 911 calls, Foret said.

An investigation is underway, but foul play is not suspected.
