FRANKLINTON, La. - A 63-year-old man died while attempting to burn some debris in his yard Tuesday afternoon, according to the State Fire Marshal.

The incident occurred shortly after the State Fire Marshal issued an outdoor burn advisory.

Firefighters responding to a call in the 47000 block of Eldredge Magee Road found several piles of debris burning in the yard and Alvin Brumfield deceased in the yard.

A spokesperson with the State Fire Marshal's office said neighbors told investigators that Brumfield was raking leaves in his yard about 15 minutes before the fire was reported.

Investigators believe that Brumfield, who they said had limited mobility, was trying to do a controlled burn of the debris when the fire grew out of control and his clothing caught fire, leading to his fatal injuries.

An autopsy is planned and the investigation remains active.
