METAIRIE, La. -- A motorcyclist has died after an accident on Clearview Parkway around 9 p.m. Thursday.
According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Traffic Fatality Officer Mark Ducote was dispatched to an accident involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Clearview Parkway and the South I-10 Service Road in Metairie.
Ducote's investigation revealed, the driver of a 2001 Ford Expedition, identified as 26 year-old Darwin Ferrera, was traveling north on Clearview Parkway, and while turning left onto I-10 Service Road, he struck a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle headed south on Clearview.
The motorcyclist, identified as Ewin Zelaya was transported to East Jefferson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Trooper Carla Billiot, of LSP Troop B, witnessed the crash and observed Darwin Ferrera attempting to flee the scene of the accident, but had to stop because of the motorcycle being wedged under his SUV.
Ferrera was taken into custody and booked with one count each of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no driver's license along with three counts of child restraint violations.
Ferrera had a total of four additional occupants, including three children in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
