DULAC, La. Witnesses to an altercation over an illegal drug transaction led investigators to the suspect in the shooting death of a Houma shrimp boat captain, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.

Richard Verdin Jr., 29, of Dulac, was pinpointed as the main suspect in Sunday's murder on a shrimp boat at Jensen's Seafood in Dulac. Vo Hung was fatally shot once in the chest on the vessel the Blue Angel, deputies said.

Witnesses said that minutes prior to the shooting, they saw several men in an argument in the area.

Deputies discovered that Verdin was engaged in an altercation with the group over a drug transaction. However, Hung was not involved in the transaction.

Verdin was arrested without incident at 3 a.m. on Tuesday at his girlfriend's house in Dularge on one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted second degree murder, a charge that stems from Verdin shooting at a subject near the boat after he shot Hung. The second victim did not sustain injuries, deputies said.

Verdin has previously been arrested for second degree battery.
