ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH The National Hurricane Center has issued a Hurricane Watch for most of Southeast Louisiana including St. John the Baptist Parish. The center of Tropical Storm Isaac was located approximately 680 miles southeast of New Orleans moving approximately 60 miles per hour.
The storm is expected to move northwest and become a hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico late Monday and or Tuesday. The official storm track has Isaac impacting the coast of Southeast Louisiana late Monday night. Conditions are expected to deteriorate Monday night with hurricane conditions possible.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness is currently partially activated and in contact with the National Weather Service, Governor's Office of Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness, and other local and state government agencies. Preparations and assessments are being made locally through the Public Works and Utility Departments. As further information and parish advisories become available, updated information will be provided.
Residents are currently being asked to review their emergency plans at this time and begin making preparations. No significant storm surge is anticipated and currently no evacuations are set for St. John the Baptist Parish at this time.
