SLIDELL, La. After a teller saw a man wearing all black, an orange mask, orange sunglasses and carrying a briefcase walking towards the front door of her bank, she thwarted a potential robbery, according to the Slidell Police Department.

She locked the door of Home Bank in Slidell and called police after seeing the man on Friday.

The man had fled the area by the time police arrived.

On Tuesday, a St. Tammany Parish deputy made a traffic stop of a suspicious car with no license plate near Gause Boulevard.

The garments the suspect wore in Friday's incident were in plain view inside the car, police said.

The driver, Mark Abney, 28, was arrested by Slidell police for failure to appear and was questioned on Friday's incident.

Abney admitted to being the suspect from Friday and also said that at the time of the traffic stop, he was looking for a victim to rob, police said.

He was then charged with attempted armed robbery.

He told detectives he wanted to rob the bank because he was desperate for money due to the fact that he couldn't find a job, police said.

Abney had been previously arrested in 2010 and charged with impersonation of a police officer.

He is being held in the Slidell City Jail where he is awaiting transfer to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
