The emergence of social media, particularly Twitter, is on full display at this year's Super Bowl. Here's a guide of local Twitter handles and hashtags to get around the event on social media.


  • Of course, WWL-TV's Twitter account has tweets of local happenings around town during the Super Bowl, with information like events, road closures and parking restrictions.
  • For the sports side of the Super Bowl, from Media Day to the game, follow Bradley Handwerger,'s sports writer at wwltvsports.
  • For the entertainment side of the Super Bowl, from the parties to the nightlife to the special events, follow NOLATonight on Twitter. Sheba Turk, (@ShebaTurk), Tamica Lee Smith (@TamicaLee)and Laura Buchtel (@Laura_Buchtel) will be tweeting about the big events around town, as well as giving the insider's view on 'New Orleans Tonight' each night this week at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 4.

The Super Bowl host committee is using the Twitter handle @NOLASuperBowl and @SuperBowl is the official account of the Super Bowl XLVII.


Certain hastags are already becoming popular. Mayor Mitch Landrieu is encouraging locals to use #BestOfNOLAas a social media tour guide for out-of-towners looking for great places to go around town: Special spots to eat, must-see attractions and even live music.

#SB47 is a popular hashtag that covers all angles of the Super Bowl from the players and the teams to the lighter side of the event.
