COVINGTON, La. - A Covington woman who awoke to find an armed man in the doorway to her bedroom was able to frighten him by screaming and then fired several shots at him as he fled, according to theSt. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. in the Covington Country Club neighborhood.

According to Captain George Bonnett, the woman woke up and saw the man pointing a gun at her. She screamed and he retreated from the door area. Bonnett said the woman then grabbed a gun and checked on her children before pursuing him and forcing him out of the house.

Once she got to the doorway,Bonnett said the woman fired three shots, all which missed the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Joseph Rogers and K-9 units canvassed the neighborhood before finding what they described as an intoxicated Rogers who resisted arrest and was tased.

Rogers was booked into jail on charges of home invasion and resisting an officer.
