LSU shortstop Alex Bregman was named Baseball America's national Freshman of the Year on Monday, handing the standout yet another honor after a big rookie season in Baton Rouge.

Bregman also earned the Freshman of the Year designation by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

He helped LSU earn a College World Series bid by batting .369 with 18 doubles, seven triples and six home runs. He contributed 52 RBI and 59 runs while stealing 16 bases and finished second in the country with 104 hits this season.

His season earned him the Brooks Wallace Award as the nation's best shortstop and a first-team All-American honor.
