NEW ORLEANS, La. It's a day more than 8 years in the making, that also has 86 years of history behind it, the reopening of the Saenger Theatre on Canal Street.

Cindy Connick, with the Canal Street Development Corporation, which is a partner in the redevelopment of the Saenger and other institutions on Canal Street, joins the Eyewitness Morning News with details on the reopening of the historic theater.

A few of the headliners appearing at the Saenger in the coming weeks include, Jerry Seinfeld, who is performing 2 shows, Friday and Saturday, Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth will perform with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, October 5, NPR host Garrison Keillor will bring his 'Prairie Home Companion' show to New Orleans October 12, and Diana Ross performs October 30.

There's also the Broadway series, which opens with the Book of Mormon on October 15.
