Members of the community slept on the streets of New Orleans Thursday night in order to give up the comforts of home, to experience what it's like for hundreds of homeless young people in the city.

The goal of the event is to raise money and awareness about homeless youth at Covenant House, which provides a safe haven for homeless youth.

Some of those giving up their warm beds to spend the night with only a sleeping bag and a cardboard box, are members of the WWL-TV family, reporter Monica Hernandez and General Manager Tod Smith.

Monica Hernandez joins Jaclyn Kelley to explain what kind of experiences she had during her night sleeping out on the streets in New Orleans.

This year's event has raised $212,000, nearly double the amount of last year's event.
