RACELAND, La. -- A man trying to cross the street died in Lafourche Parish after he was hit by a truck Saturday evening.

It happened at about 10 p.m. on Hwy. 1 near Hospital Drive.

According to Louisiana State Police, David Bergeron, 29, was waiting to cross the west side of Hwy. 1 along with two of his friends. Police say he tried to cross the highway 'for reasons unknown' and into the path of a Ford F-150 traveling southbound.

Bergeron was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver, 51-year-old Billy Duet, was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. He submitted to a breathalyzer test, and police cleared him of any alcohol involvement.He is not facing any charges.

A toxicology test is pending for Bergeron.
