Thibodaux teens arrested for damaging golf course with carts

Chad Bower / Eyewitness News

THIBODAUX, La. -- Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested five individuals who they believe are responsible for $50,000 in damage to a Thibodaux country club.

The investigations into the damages began in August 2008, after a report that the Thibodaux Bayou Country Club and some of its equipment had been damaged. Golf carts were taken and used to damage the course and greens. After causing damage to the course, the suspects stuck three of the carts in a mud hole. Two carts were driven into a canal that ran along the course.

Later, on Dec. 18, 2008, the incident happened again. Golf carts were taken out, and significant damage was done to the grass. Carts were driven into a cinder block bathroom, which knocked down part of the roof. Officers found three carts in Bayou Lafourche across from Parkside Drive. A fourth cart was found in a pond in the area of Acadia Woods, which is behind the club.

Each cart is valued around $5000 and $6000, and combined with damages to the fairways and facilities, the total damage is estimated to reach near $50,000.

17-year-olds Brandon Lafleur of 511 Parkside Drive and Blake Daigle of 2500 Karen Street, along with three 15 and 16-year-old juveniles, were charged with six counts of theft, four counts of criminal damage to property, two counts of criminal trespassing and nine counts of unauthorized use of an automobile.

While the two adults were booked and their bonds set at $5000, the three juveniles were released to their parents.
