NEW ORLEANS, La. – The city council and the mayor’s office have reached an agreement that will keep the enhanced cleaning services in the French Quarter until at least the end of October.

The sweet-smelling sprays and power washing that has had many comment on the change in the Quarter’s appearance had been in question as the city tried to tighten its budget to meet financial challenges, which included a projected $24 million reduction over the previous year.
“That’s not just for the French Quarter,” said Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson. “That’s the front door of the city and the leading economic industry of this city.”
Councilwoman Cynthia Hedge-Morrell said she believes that a stepped up attempt to collect sanitation fees from businesses and residents who are currently not paying, could help fund the services for the final two months of the year.
