Engine fire causes plane evacuation

07:16 AM CDT on Monday, May 19, 2008

Associated Press

BATON ROUGE -- Fifty-four passengers were evacuated from a plane at Baton Rouge Metro Airport after the right engine caught on fire while the plane was taxiing for take-off.

Airport spokesman Ronnie Pickard says no one on Delta Flight 4320 to Atlanta was injured Sunday.

Pickard says the regional jet was taxiing from the gate for about three minutes when the right engine blew out and caught on fire.

Delta ferried another plane in from another airport and was able to fly the passengers on to Atlanta.
