01:10 PM CDT on Monday, June 9, 2008
WALKER -- A truck driver has been killed in a collision with a train in the town of Walker.
The accident in Livingston Parish was the second train fatality in the region in less than a week. On June 4, two people were killed in Tangipahoa Parish between Independence and Amite when a southbound Amtrak train hit a car.
Monday morning's accident happened along Highway 190 near Sunland Road, which is in the eastern part of Walker, where Highway 190 begins to turn north back towards the tracks.
Walker police Chief Hunter Grimes says a tanker truck belonging to a mineral company out of Harahan slowly crossed the tracks and was hit on the passenger side by a train heading east.
The name of the victim was being withheld while authorities contacted family members.
