The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office was involved in a high speed chase Wednesday afternoon that stretched for miles, crossing over the Crescent City Connection before ending in two arrests.

Colonel John Fortunato said that officers spotted a parked Ford Taurus occupied by a man and a woman on Stumpf Blvd. and the Westbank Expressway in Gretna. Fortunato said they appeared to be involved in a drug transaction.

The officers approached the vehicle and when they ordered the occupants to exit the car, the driver accelerated and sped away.

Assisted by the New Orleans Police Department, the deputies pursued the vehicle across the Crescent City Connection into New Orleans. They stopped the suspects on the westbound down ramp on the I-10 Louisa overpass. The suspects then threw a handgun and a small packet from the vehicle, Fortunato said.

The weapon and the packet, which seemed to be narcotics, were recovered under the overpass, Fortunato said.

The driver of the vehicle is identified as Kyria Boudreaux, 25. The passenger is identified as Jacoby Powell, 19.

Both suspects are being booked by the NOPD as fugitives from Jefferson Parish. Once they are returned back to Jefferson Parish, Fortunato said, both will be booked with multiple narcotics violations along with firearm charges.
