St. Bernard Parish council to return to Chalmette meeting chambers
07:08 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 15, 2008
CHALMETTE, La. -- In a welcome sign of recovery in St. Bernard Parish, the parish council is set to return to its meeting chambers in Chalmette.
After Hurricane Katrina inundated the parish nearly three years ago, the council started meeting in a triple-wide trailer in the parking lot of the government complex.
Tuesday's reopening of the council's meeting space is part of a $3.5 million renovation of the parish's government complex. Councilman Frank Auderer says the rest of the building should be completed by November.
