In a particularly gruesome evening, New Orleans police are investigating two separate murders which happened Friday night less than 30 minutes and three miles apart.

Police tape off the crime scene on North Prieur Street.

Around 10:15 p.m., First District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 1500 block of North Prieur Street, finding an 18-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the face, police said in a statement.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, and police said that the shooting may have resulted from a fight that occurred moments before the Seventh Ward shooting.

NOPD detectives determined Darrell Lewis, 23, was responsible and obtained an arrest warrant for second-degree murder, less than 24 hours after the original offense.

Shortly after the first shooting, around 10:40 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 3100 block of Marais Street in the Ninth Ward.

A 20-year-old male was discovered lying in the street by police with several gunshot wounds to the body, police said.

The NOPD is trying to determine who is responsible for either shooting, and investigators are trying to determine a motive in the second shooting, police said.
