Ochsner Medical Center Statement:
"On Wednesday, July 30th, 12-year-old Devin Funck, the victim of an alligator attack, was transported to Ochsner Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Devin suffered a total amputation of his left arm at the shoulder and multiple wounds to his torso.
Due to the severity of the attack, his left arm was unable to be reattached and remain functional. Over the next few days, he will undergo several minor operations in order to keep his wounds clean as they heal."
Devin’s remarkable recovery thus far is a testament to his quick thinking; the fast response of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office and paramedics; and the care of countless physicians and medical personnel at Slidell Memorial and Ochsner Medical Center. Devin remains in intensive care, off a ventilator, and is able to talk to his parents. He is expected to recover in the following months as he undergoes extensive physical therapy and, ultimately, a fitting for prosthesis."
"Devin and his family’s courage during this difficult time has been an inspiration to the entire Ochsner staff."
