Public schools in Jefferson Parish open Aug. 11
06:36 AM CDT on Tuesday, August 5, 2008
The first day of school for Jefferson Parish public schools this year is Monday, Aug. 11.
Parents are asked to register before the first day of school. For those whose children did not complete the 2007-2008 school year in a Jefferson Parish public school, you must register your child at the school located in your school attendance zone. If you moved from one zone to another since the end of the 2007-2008 school year, you must register at the school located in the new attendance zone.
To find the school in your attendance zone, visit the Jefferson Parish Public School System website at www.jppss.k12.la.us. Click on "Find Your School" graphic box located on the left hand navigation bar on the front page of the system’s website.
You may also call 349 - 8999 Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m.
and 4:30 p.m. to learn the name of your child's school.
You may register at the school in your child's attendance zone starting Monday, July 28 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Your child does not need to be present.
The following must be brought when registering:
* Birth certificate
* Social Security card
* Two proofs of residence (such as a driver’s license or a Louisiana identification card, a utility bill or deposit, lease or lease agreement, an act of sale or an agreement to purchase)
* Immunization records
* Final report card from last year
* LEAP or GEE scores
* Custody papers (if any)
*Passport/visa (if applicable)
* Copy of your child's approved transfer request (if any).
If your child did complete the 2007-2008 school year in a Jefferson Parish Public School and you live in the same attendance zone as you did at the end of the 2007-2008 school, you do not need to register your child.
Transportation information is available by calling 349-8999.
Aug. 11 is a full day of school; students must wear complete school uniforms. Shorts are not permitted in middle and high schools. Book bags must be clear or mesh.
