Final FEMA collection of storm debris under way
07:19 AM CDT on Thursday, August 14, 2008
CHALMETTE, La. -- Less than two weeks shy of the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the final FEMA-funded collection of storm debris in St. Bernard Parish is under way.
Although the Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to cover the cost of debris pickup until the end of the year, those needing it picked up must make their requests before September 15.
Damage from the hurricane, and the massive flooding that followed it, was extremely heavy in St. Bernard Parish. All but two buildings in the parish flooded after the August 29, 2005 storm.
