Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies found the body of a 16-year-old girl in a ditch along a residential road Saturday morning.

Deputies were called to the 12000 Joynton Road around 2:45 a.m., according to spokesperson Blair Foster.

Once there, they discovered a 16-year-old African-American girl lying face down in the ditch, Foster said. She had been shot in the back several times.

Tangipahoa Parish authorities are asking anyone with information on the murder to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or the Sheriff’s Office at 985-345-6150.
