Murder trial seven years in the waiting set to begin Monday

Jury selection is set to begin Monday after a seven year wait since a Mandeville mother was gunned down as she tried to unload bags from her car.

The case, which has been one of the most high-profile murders of the decade, has been delayed more than 10 times.

Dominic Robinson is the alleged triggerman in the July 4, 2001 slaying of Samantha Jaume. He’s charged with first-degree murder, and District Attorney Walter Reed said he is seeking the death penalty.

There have been four arrests in the case, but Robinson is the first to go to trial. Robinson is already serving time in Angola Prison on a conviction for an unrelated attempted murder charge.

Investigators called the shooting a botched attempt to steal Jaume’s SUV so it could be sold for drugs.

Jaume left behind four young children.
